The central government of India is promoting the country's rich culture and heritage worldwide, and state governments are joining in this effort by showcasing their own unique art, culture, and heritage. As part of this initiative, the state government of Himachal Pradesh is organizing a 15-day event called 'Him Mahotsav' in New Delhi. The event will take place from 16th to 30th December and will provide a marketing platform for the state. Delhi Haat, the iconic cultural hub of New Delhi, will be transformed into a vibrant showcase of Himachal's artistic expressions.
Him Mahotsav Inauguration
- Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated the festival on 17 December 2023.
The objectives of organizing Him Mahotsav are
- To provide a platform for artisans and craftsmen to showcase their talents and products.
- To market the goods produced in the state at a national and international level.
- To showcase the rich crafts, handlooms, and cuisines of Himachal.
- To feature a fashion show in the national capital to showcase the culture, crafts, and cuisine of Himachal.
- To involve artisans in showcasing traditional Himachali clothes with the help of fashion designers to popularize these aspects.
HPTDC, Nodal Department of ‘Him Craft Mahotsav’
- The Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) will be responsible for organizing the 'Him Craft Mahotsav' event, while the Rural Development Department will act as a partner.
- The event presents a great opportunity to promote Himachal's crafts.
- At the G20 summit held earlier this year, Him Craft had the highest sales of Rs 2.5 crore among all the stalls.
- MPs and senior officials in New Delhi have been invited to attend the program.
- The Himachal Handloom and Handicrafts Corporation has been renamed as Him Craft and given a new logo.
