Chamba, a district in Himachal Pradesh, is on the verge of achieving a significant milestone by becoming the first district in the state to establish a green hydrogen-based mobility station. This initiative is a positive step towards green energy and sustainable transportation in the region.
Project Details and Partnerships
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu declared the upcoming establishment of the green hydrogen-based mobility station in Chamba. The National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) is set to
undertake the construction of this pivotal green initiative in collaboration
with the state government. The project is expected to be completed by August
2025, representing a significant leap towards sustainable energy and
transportation in Himachal Pradesh.
Features
of the Mobility Station
The Green Hydrogen Mobility Station pilot project, estimated
to cost Rs 14 crore, will be located near the NHPC’s Chamera-III
power station. One of its key components includes a 300-kilowatt grid-connected
solar power plant to fulfill the station's energy requirements. This solar
plant will produce 20 kilograms of green hydrogen per day, which will
then be stored at pressures of 450 bar or higher to fuel a green
hydrogen bus. Furthermore, the project will include the setup of a hydrogen
dispenser unit to facilitate bus refuelling.
Future
Prospects and Benefits
The NHPC has already initiated the tender process to procure
a green hydrogen bus for Chamba, emphasizing the proactive approach to ensure
the availability of sustainable transportation as soon as the pilot project
becomes operational. The launch of this project in the Chamba district is
expected to yield numerous benefits, including revenue generation and the
creation of employment opportunities for the local population.
The
Government’s Vision for Himachal Pradesh
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu shared the
government's commitment to transforming Himachal Pradesh into a green
energy state by March 31, 2026. This vision underscores the focus on
harnessing green energy to meet the region's energy demands and promote
sustainable development.
Other
Initiatives and Development Projects
In addition to the green hydrogen-based mobility station,
the government has laid the foundation stones of various development projects
totalling Rs 120.44 crore. These projects encompass a wide range of initiatives
aimed at fostering comprehensive development in the region. Furthermore, the
announcement of the upcoming Chamba heliport and the allocation of funds for
consultancy services for the construction of the Chamba-Chowari-Jot tunnel
reflects the government's commitment to infrastructure development and
connectivity improvement in the region.
The Path
Towards Sustainable Transportation
The establishment of the green hydrogen-based mobility
station in Chamba not only marks a significant leap forward in promoting
sustainable energy and transportation in Himachal Pradesh but also sets an
example for other regions to emulate. This initiative holds the promise of
transforming Chamba into a hub of sustainable transportation and can serve as a
model for other regions as the state progresses towards its goal of becoming a
green energy state by 2026.
Conclusion
The plans to establish the green hydrogen-based mobility
station in Chamba, along with various other development projects, reflect the
government's dedication to fostering comprehensive and sustainable development
in the region.
The integration of sustainable energy and transportation
initiatives not only promises to transform Chamba into a model of eco-friendly
transportation but also shapes a greener and more connected future for all of
Himachal Pradesh.
